On the bench we have a build start of the new version of a classic 45 SET design, not as a restoration but as something new. It will be called the “Original 45”.
The heart of any power amp is the front end, and that is where this amp is different. This one is redesigned from the ground up, revised circuitry in the driver section is a refinement of past efforts that I think truly shines. Subjectively the result is a cleaner and crisper attack, and an enhanced sense of power and authority.
The strength of the 45 is directness, music arriving fresh and alive without the sense of something in the way. This version keeps that intimacy and adds focus, speed, and weight. This example is a demo pair and will be best paired with horns or dynamic speakers ~96dB efficiency or above.
This pair has cosmetic touches that bring a warm, high-end finish, the kind of piece you want to look at as much as listen to. Customer commissions will have choices of cosmetics/woods to suit taste.
